Junior Fermentation Scientist (m/f/d)

• Plan, prepare, and perform microbial cultivation and fermentation experiments, ranging from shake-flask cultures to bench-scale fermentations of up to 5 L
• Carry out laboratory work under aseptic conditions, including work at the clean bench and the preparation of culture media, buffers, solutions, and reagents
• Set up, operate, monitor, and maintain bench-top fermentation systems and associated laboratory equipment
• Monitor fermentation performance and evaluate relevant process and product KPIs throughout experimental campaigns
• Perform bioanalytical characterization of fermentation samples using methods such as SDS-based analysis, enzymatic assays, HPLC, and other relevant analytical techniques
• Evaluate experimental data, identify trends and deviations, and summarize results in a clear and structured manner
• Document experiments thoroughly and learn how to prepare concise reports of experimental results and conclusions
• Organize and prioritize your laboratory activities independently, ensuring that experiments are properly planned, executed, analyzed, and documented within agreed timelines
• Contribute to the maintenance and organization of microbial strains, cell banks, laboratory materials, and equipment
• Collaborate closely with colleagues across different disciplines and contribute to the continuous improvement of our fermentation processes and laboratory workflows

• A degree or vocational qualification in biotechnology, microbiology, bioprocess engineering, biological laboratory technology (e.g. BTA), or a related field
• Practical experience working under aseptic conditions and confidence in standard microbiological and biotechnology laboratory techniques
• Hands-on experience with microbial cultivation; experience with shake-flask cultures and/or bench-scale fermenters is highly desirable
• Familiarity with the preparation of culture media, buffers, solutions, and reagents, as well as accurate sample handling and laboratory documentation
• Experience with, or a strong interest in learning, analytical methods for evaluating fermentation samples, such as SDS-based analysis, enzymatic assays, and HPLC
• A structured and reliable approach to experimental work, with the ability to independently organize laboratory activities and follow experiments through from preparation to data analysis and reporting
• A practical, hands-on mindset combined with curiosity, attention to detail, and a willingness to troubleshoot and learn new techniques
• A collaborative and team-oriented approach, while being comfortable taking ownership of assigned experiments and project tasks
• Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken; German is a plus
